Keeping cool in Hot weather
Its Summertime and with it comes the problem of staying cool when the weathers hot. Not everyone can afford an air conditioner, and every year there are hundreds of heat related deaths particularly among the old a very young. Its common knowledge that you can get used to anything and that applies also to your tolerance of heat and cold. You've all heard the saying "its all in your mind" and for most of us, thats exactly what it is. Lets say you don't have an air conditioning unit and the heat outside as well as inside seems to be unbearable. The first thing your mind tells you is make yourself cooler or find a place thats cooler right? wrong. In such a situation you should look for a place that is hotter than the place you currently are, and go there for a few minutes and come back out. A closet, an attic, a car with the windows rolled up comes to mind. In my case I use my attic which can be up to 60 degrees hotter in the summer than the rest of the house. I simply go sit in the attic with its 140 degree heat for a about 10-15 minutes then come back down to the house which might be 92-95 degrees. You will be flat amazed at your comfort level once you return to the normal heat. This can work in both hot and cold situations, its just mind over matter and can make a big difference in your comfort level as well as your overall well being. |
