Soil Conditioning
I'm a farmer, that is I grow things. I grow everything from flowers,to trees,to vegtables. The average person does not know how to grow anything and thats a fact, so I am here to tell you the most important thing about growing anything is the quality of your soil. You can say that with capital letters. It doesnt matter what kind of seed or plant you have, if your soil isnt conditioned for what you plan to grow, you are wasting your time and money. You can't just dig a hole, put your plant or seed in, water it and expect to have something, it doesnt work that way. If you want to grow good plants, you have to know what your plants like. There are two types of soil, Alkaline and Acidic. Its up to you to see what kind your plants like. Go to a local home improvement store and get you a good PH meter, the kind with two prongs that you stick in the ground, they dont cost much, well under 20 bucks. Test your soil and see what you are working with. If you are growing plants that are acid loving and the soil is alkaline, add sulphur or aluminum sulphate to the ground several weeks before planting. On the other hand if your soil is acidic and you want to make it more alkaline, add hydrated lime. All soils need to be tilled or turned over 2 or 3 months in advance. Learn what kind of soil you're dealing with and what kind of soil your plants love, and you'll have a bountiful harvest everytime. |
